Necessity being the mother of invention.
The Desktop Dispatcher was created by yours truly, Mark Fleming in 2000. As a locksmith, I wanted to be able to create work orders, track my customers, their equipment and their service histories. At the time, I couldn’t find any “ready to use” programs, on the market, so I created one. Seeing the value in what I had, I made TDD flexible enough to work for any service based business and Custom Desktop Solutions was born. Since then, in one form or another, we’ve deployed thousands of copies of our solutions in just about every English speaking country in the world.
All of our solutions are created with FileMaker Pro. FileMaker is a world renowned, database management program, owned by Apple, it lets you easily create just about any kind of solution, using easy point and click tools. This means you don’t have to know anything about programming to use it. FileMaker Pro is free if you use it to connect to a hosted solution, such as our Unplugged version of TDD. If, however, you want to purchase your solution outright and run it on your own computer, you can. As a FileMaker developer, I’m licensed to create and distribute what they call a runtime solution. It’s just enough of the FileMaker program to allow my solutions to do what they’re supposed to do. If you want to customize your solution or if you want to share it on other computers, or iPhones and iPads, you’ll need to open TDD with a copy of FileMaker Pro. It sells for about $300 at www.FileMaker.com
As evidenced by our pricing, we’re not a get rich quick company. Our goal is to build long term relationships with clients, not to simply sell to as many customers as we can. While we believe there is great value in our product, we also believe the best way to provide the most value to our clients, is to maintain a relationship so that we’re here to advise and help as needed.
